The Republican presidential candidate who placed third in Georgia's March 1 primary also pulled in the most money from Georgians in the first three months of 2016.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz dramatically outraised his GOP rivals between January and March in Georgia, our analysis of federal campaign finance found, showing the organizing prowess the his campaign displayed at the state's district conventions earlier this month also extended to the bank.

Cruz trounced Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who's fundraising haul came mainly from metro Atlanta, and front-runner Donald Trump, who is mainly self-funding his campaign.

On the Democratic side of the aisle, Hillary Clinton continued to dominate the fundraising game, but Bernie Sanders supporters also posted a strong showing.
