TV host Samantha Bee unloaded another attack on Republican state Sen. Renee Unterman, this time with a seven-minute segment that aired late Monday criticizing "crisis pregnancy centers" aimed at persuading women not to get abortions. And this time, she also had some help from fellow comedian Patton Oswalt.
Since we are a family blog, we’ll refrain from a full transcript of what Bee said, but suffice to say she didn’t hold back.
"Woman, have you lost your ....mind?" she said in a cleaned-up version of the quote on TBS' "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee." "Much like Renee Unterman, crisis pregnancy centers may look sweet and helpful, but they're really full of toxic [er, crap]."
Oswalt, dressed like a mysterious magician, was then featured in a brief documentary to expose the “conception deception” of the centers.
Unterman sponsored Senate Bill 308 which allows the state to funnel taxpayer-funded grants toward "pregnancy resource centers" to discourage women from getting abortions. Lawmakers set aside $2 million for the program, and an estimated 70 centers could qualify for the funds.
Unterman has said the bill creates “positive alternatives” for women struggling with the decision to get an abortion, and that she hopes it would reduce the number of abortions in Georgia. It passed both legislative chambers by hefty margins and was signed into law last month.
The Gwinnett Republican has fast become a favorite target of Bee's. She blasted Unterman in March for balking at Democratic-sponsored legislation to address the neglect of rape kits in Georgia hospitals. That measure passed in the final minutes of the legislative session and was signed by Gov. Nathan Deal.
