Top Donald Trump surrogate and onetime Georgia lawmaker Newt Gingrich will host a town hall at Kennesaw State University next week, the Trump campaign announced.
The event will be held at the university's Carmichael Student Center starting at noon on Monday, Sept. 12. Tickets and more info about the town hall can be found here. The campaign said Gingrich will focus on the election and "the most pressing issues facing America."
The event in a way represents a return to Gingrich's roots. He spent early part of his career teaching at the University of West Georgia in the 1970s before moving into politics full time.
Once considered a top contender for VP, the former House speaker has remained one of Trump's most vocal and visible supporters on cable news and social media in recent weeks.
The event comes as the Trump campaign beefs up its presence in Georgia, meant as a sign that the Republican nominee doesn't take the state for granted as rival Hillary Clinton also ups her Peach State presence.
The Trump campaign recently added two staffers to its Atlanta operation. And even as Trump himself has focused on more traditional swing states as of late, he sent his running mate Mike Pence to Georgia last week for a two-day trip.
