A new poll from a Republican-leaning firm shows Democrat Jon Ossoff leading the race for Georgia's 6th congressional district, with former state Sen. Dan Moody and former Secretary of State Karen Handel neck-and-neck for the second spot in an expected runoff.
Meeting Street Research's new poll, conducted Tuesday, shows Ossoff with 43 percent of the vote. Moody and Handel are tied for second at 12 percent each, and former state Sen. Judson Hill at 10 percent, the only other candidate in double digits.
The survey represents a boost for Moody who was at 4 percent in the firm's last poll in March. Handel is down from the March 17 poll, when she laid claim to 17 percent of the vote.
While Ossoff's lead is big, there is dangerous data in the Meeting Street poll. When asked to name their second choice in the race, only 1 percent chose Ossoff, which would indicate his support has a ceiling below the majority needed to win.
Handel leads in the second-choice category with 12 percent, while Moody is the runner-up choice for 11 percent.
The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
