In the span of a few hours, Gov. Nathan Deal is set to speak to the state's top education leaders and school superintendents followed by an address to most of Georgia's top police brass.

The Republican plans to discuss his push for a constitutional amendment that would allow the state to take control of chronically failing local schools at 9 a.m. at the Georgia Education Leadership Institute.

Next, he will speak to an audience at the Capitol that will include Col. Mark McDonough of the Department of Public Safety, long-time Georgia Bureau of Investigation head Vernon Keenan and state prisons chief Homer Bryson. Also set to attend the speech are House Speaker David Ralston, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and a handful of legislative leaders.
