Both the House and Senate start at 10 this morning.
The House will take up HB 704, which would allow residents to vote on incorporation of a new city in South Fulton. A recent Georgia State University study found the city would be financially viable, but some residents oppose incorporation and would rather be annexed into Atlanta or other cities.
The Senate floor calendar is light.
Look for the House public safety committee hear House Bill 907, which is designed to force Uber and Lyft -- two up-and-coming smart phone-based services popular with urban dwellers -- to comply with many of the same regulations hoisted upon taxi and limo firms such as safety and insurance requirements. Critics of that bill worry would it cripple the ride-sharing services.
Outside the Capitol, it’s all about coalitions. Americans for Prosperity, the ACLU of Georgia and other organizations are banding together to form “Georgians for Forfeiture Reform,” which will advocate -- you guessed it -- civil forfeiture reform. They’ll take questions from the media and be joined by a Georgia citizen who was the victim of “forfeiture abuse.”
