In her ads and in her rhetoric, Michelle Nunn has often mentioned her affinity to the 41st president. He has not returned the favor.
George H.W. Bush's team has already said he wouldn't endorse the Democrat in her Senate bid. And now he has sent out a fundraising letter urging GOP donors to support a super PAC that will shower support on the eventual GOP nominee.
Bush was careful not to support either Rep. Jack Kingston or businessman David Perdue, "good men" who square off in a July 22 runoff. But he and his wife Barbara reminded donors that "Georgia will help decide which way the Senate goes."
He was boosting the Senate Battleground Fund, a group that has already hosted ex-GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Republican National Committee chair Reince Priebus. The group's take will be used to boost the eventual GOP nominee – whoever he may be.
Nunn is the chief executive - though currently on leave - of Points of Light Foundation,
that the former president helped start. That group is holding a conference in Atlanta next week, though we're told the timing of Bush's letter is purely coincidental.

Now closing in on the age of 90, I have a hard time recalling a more critical midterm election than the one we face this fall. I say this because America is moving in the wrong direction, enough so to cause genuine worry about the country we will be leaving our… well, in our case our kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
As it stands today, the Republican Party has the opportunity not only to maintain control of the United States House of Representatives, but also to recapture the majority in the United States Senate.
Nothing could be more important for America’s future in my view, Barbara Bush’s too.
And Georgia will help decide which way the Senate goes.
Happily, Republicans in Georgia have put two good men into a run-off to determine who faces the Democratic nominee this November. It will be late summer before the eventual nominee is determined, however; so in the interim, Barbara and I are getting behind the Senate Battleground Fund to make sure that GOP nominee has the resources he needs to prevail in the general election.
I am writing today to ask you to consider doing the same.
Every indicator thus far suggests the Democratic nominee in Georgia will be well-funded, and stands to benefit greatly from a relatively easy primary period and the absence of a run-off challenge. The Senate Battleground Fund will try to erase or at least minimize that clear advantage, and ensure the Republican nominee enters the general election later this summer with a strong breeze in his sails – ready to propel him to victory.
Like you, I am sure, I have been disappointed by the current Senate leadership. To bring genuine, positive change to the Senate and to America, we must put Georgia in the GOP column come Election Night 2014. The Senate Battleground Fund is key to doing just that, which is why we are asking for your help.
