You know that fight over early voting that Democrats in the Legislature thought they had ducked through their support of the transportation funding bill? It's back.

H.B. 194, the bill authored by state Rep. Mark Hamilton, R-Cumming, would sharply curtail the early voting period and restrict weekend voting to four hours on either a Saturday or Sunday, but not both.

It missed the Crossover-Day deadline, but we're told that the measure has been inserted into S.B. 127, a ethics bill to exempt some public officials from fines -- owning to the chaos within what was once known as the state ethics commission.

Also inserted into S.B. 127, we're told is that House effort to give chamber caucuses more freedom to raise campaign cash -- and spend it on incumbents. Or not.

S.B. 127 is now in the House Rules Committee.
