Florida is the home of wacky news, but Kentucky, an almost-Southern state , gives the Sunshine State occasional competition.

In Louisville, a woman is accused of beating and robbing a disabled man in his home because he said he did not believe in God.

Laura Reid, 49, is charged with second degree assault, second degree robbery, and first degree unlawful imprisonment after taking the victim's metal cane away and beating him with it until it broke.

After the alleged assault, Reid stayed in the home for three hours, preventing the victim from seeking medical attention, police said. She eventually left, but not before taking the man's cell phone, keys, $50 in cash and his wallet.

The victim eventually crawled to a nearby gas station and was taken to a hospital to be treated for a concussion and broken arm, among other injuries.

Elsewhere in Kentucky, which coincidentally makes whiskey in large quantities, a man has been charged with theft and promoting prostitution after stealing barnyard animals and offering to return them to their male owner in exchange for sex.

Police allege Rodney Brown, 25, stole 25 roosters and one goat whose gender was not specified.

Brown also threatened to beat the man he robbed if he told police.

Fortunately, the rooster rustler was dumb enough to send his demands and threats in text messages, so he was also arrested for terroristic threats.

Why does a man need 25 roosters and no hens? I have no idea.
