Oxford American, a quarterly Southern literary magazine now based in Arkansas, publishes an annual issue focusing on Southern music, more particularly on the music of one particular state. This year's focus is on the music and musicians coming out of the state of Georgia, with articles and a 25-song CD covering a range of artists from James Brown to Johnny Mercer, the Allmans and Outkast.
As you can tell from the table of contents, it's an embarrassment of riches for anyone wanting to know more about our state's eclectic contribution to American music.
So in light of the holiday season, here's Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings performing one of the songs on the CD, "Ain't No Chimneys in the Projects."
