Unable to capture any momentum in the Republican race for the White House, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) dropped out on Wednesday, as the winnowing of the GOP field continues in the wake of the Iowa Caucus results.

In a statement sent to reporters, Paul said he would now focus on his bid for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Kentucky.

"Although, today I will suspend my campaign for President, the fight is far from over," Paul said.

When I caught up with Paul last week in Iowa, he had the usual big crowd, but there was no sense that he was on the move in the GOP race.
