While the weather is not cold enough to provide a White Christmas in Washington, D.C., the holiday displays here in the nation's capital will certainly be a big focus for residents and tourists alike, as the U.S. Capitol and the White House remain the biggest draws at this time of year.

I started my holiday photography at the Capitol, where the 2016 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree comes from Idaho, harvested from the Payette National Forest.

Here was a picture I took looking away from the Capitol; you can see the setting sun peeking through the Capitol tree, with the Washington Monument visible in the background.

But, while the tree looks swell during the day, it is a much bigger attraction once darkness falls, as the lights come on.

Down the National Mall on the Ellipse - which is between the White House and the Washington Monument - the crowds are flocking to the National Christmas Tree.
