The AJC created the Celebrating Teachers Awards this year to showcase remarkable Georgia educators. More than 375 teachers were nominated in the inaugural round of the awards, and a panel of education professors chose 10 winners.
These teachers share a critical trait: They go above and beyond for their students and their schools. Since this is Thanksgiving week, a time to express gratitude, I am sharing the nominating letters and photos of all 10 teachers, two each day from Monday to Friday. The new profiles will post early in the morning and mid-afternoon each day.
So, please check back and read about all 10. You will find inspiration. The nominating letters were read at a celebration a few weeks ago at Cox headquarters in honor of the winners.
Tiffany Bunch from Rockbridge Elementary School in DeKalb was nominated by her principal Derrick Brown, who, in part, wrote:
Ms. Bunch has vast practical experience in education and leadership roles beyond classroom instruction. Ms. Bunch has served as a coordinator for afterschool tutorial, as a professional learning liaison, an RTI Coordinator, an assistant testing administrator and had provided extensive curriculum training in developing goals for teachers.
She is the chair of several committees where she's responsible for keeping the teachers informed about upcoming events and coordinating activities. She also serves as a mentor for new teachers and provides support to meet their needs. She has a profound knowledge of the curriculum and instruction in regards to effective instructional strategies.
Ms. Bunch is excellent in managing our after-school budget including stipends, supplies, and bus transportation. As a Leadership Team member, she consults with teachers on effective ways to providing professional, relevant materials that educate, train and inspire our teachers.
I highly recommend Ms. Bunch without any reservations for the AJC Celebrating Teachers Award.
