The chatty morning host's comments on "The Today Show" follow a recent flood of allegations from women including supermodel Beverly Johnson, who said Cosby once drugged her when she was auditioning for a role on his hit 1980s sitcom "The Cosby Show."

“My head became woozy, my speech became slurred, and the room began to spin nonstop,”

“Cosby motioned for me to come over to him as though we were really about to act out the scene. He put his hands around my waist, and I managed to put my hand on his shoulder in order to steady myself.”

Johnson said she was able to get away unharmed, and Gifford said she rebuffed Cosby's advances without incident.

Recently the Cosby Chair for the Humanities, a prestigious endowed professorship at Spelman College, funded in part by a $20 million gift that Cosby and his wife, Camille Cosby, gave to the school in the 1980s, has been suspended indefinitely while the comedian and actor deals with almost daily allegations of sexual assaults.

Camille Cosby recently spoke out in her husband's defense, saying he is "a wonderful husband, father and friend. He is the man you thought you knew."
