Frank Sinatra was in Atlanta for a 1984 performance and found himself in a bit of a jam.
He couldn't figure out how to work the fancy, high-tech phone at the Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead. Luckily catering manager Martha Jo Katz was there to save the day. After she helped the crooner connect, he insisted they take a photo together (scroll down to see it, below).
It's just one of countless stories compiled at the venerable hotel after more than 30 years at the corner of Peachtree and Lenox roads in Buckhead. Guests, employees and hospitality experts are reacting with nostalgia and excitement as the hotel's time under the famous blue flag comes to an end. As of Dec. 1, the hotel will be The Whitley, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Atlanta Buckhead.
“I can’t imagine Buckhead being without a Ritz,” Katz said.
