Whenever you talk to a wine expert and ask their tips for understanding wine better, they’ll say, “taste a lot of wine.” But an average person doesn’t have the same resources that a wine shop owner or restaurant beverage manager would have; most of us don’t have extensive wine cellars that constantly rotate throughout seasons. That’s where wine tastings become handy.

Often restaurants will host wine dinners or tastings with a specific producer so guests have an opportunity to sample a few different wines. But what if you had the opportunity to taste 20 wines in one night?

Watershed on Peachtree is known for their monthly 20 for $20 wine tastings, where they'll pop off the corks of at least 20 wines for guests to sample. The tasting takes place in Watershed's bar area, where guests can hover between four tables to taste several white and red varietals. Many times, the wine maker themselves will be in attendance, pouring the bottle that they produced.

The room fills up quickly, making it seem like this is where the city celebrates their Tuesday evenings. Throughout the evening, Executive Chef Zeb Stevenson sends out tastes of whatever strikes his fancy. Despite the crowds, if you have questions about a wine, the pourers are knowledgeable and happily spend time with you nerding out on anything from wine tasting notes to soil and climate.

The next 20 for $20 is Tuesday, May 19 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. This month's theme is the lighter, refreshing wines that are perfect for summer sipping. It's recommended that you call the restaurant to register in the tasting in advance, however you can arrive without a reservation.
