The Mercantile is a quaint, neighborhood gem, whispering its pleasantries to the Candler Park community through a thoughtfully selected emporium of local and artisanal goods, free wine tastings, and their family meal plan.

The family meal plan was created during last year’s back-to-school season as a way to alleviate the stress of cooking when a family is already bogged down with work and school schedules. Many stores such as Whole Foods Market and Fresh Market offer similar plans, but we wanted to delve into the local appeal of The Mercantile.

“We have premade casseroles in our market that were selling well, and we knew there were several families in the community, so we wanted to take the stress out of dinner. All you have to do is preheat the oven,” said chef Samantha Enzmann, who curates the meals for program.

Now in its second year, the menus are based around three entrees, side dishes, and desserts and there are sizes for both two and four people.

“We’ve had several young couples take advantage of the plan, because either their work schedule or young children make it difficult to prepare meals,” said Mercantile’s co-owner, Janea Boyles.

The culinary team spends most of Sunday preparing home cooked meals for the week, so they are fresh when you pick up your order on Monday. Chef Enzmann uses local, high quality ingredients, like seafood from Inland Seafood and hormone-free meats.

Going into fall, The Mercantile plans to do an Oktoberfest menu with dishes like blueberry kuchen, bratwurst, and apple strudel.
