April 1 is synonymous with watching your back, lest your prankster co-workers pull one over on you. Maybe it's time you played the April Fools' Day prank?
Start the day off with a bang by bringing in an assortment of, shall we say, unusual doughnuts from Sublime Doughnuts? Today only, the shop is offering up an assortment of flavors for $2 each that'll leave Don from Accounting's mouth very confused. Choose from:
- Jalapeño Cheddar Fritter
- Sriracha and White Chocolate Doughnut
- Scotch Bonnet and Caramel Doughnut
- Buffalo Chicken Mousse-Filled Doughnut with Powdered Ranch Dressing
Sublime Doughnuts, 535 10th St. NW, Atlanta. sublimedoughnuts.com
But wait! We're not done with the April Fools' tomfoolery just yet. We got this press release from Sweet Auburn Barbecue this morning, that, truth be told, had us confused but also a little excited: They'd be launching a vegan menu.
Chef Stallings and Hsu collaborated in designing a menu that simultaneously celebrates Hsu’s Malaysian-Chinese heritage and the integrity of local produce. The result is a creative menu that offers vegan interpretations of current Sweet Auburn signature dishes as well as new dishes inspired by the region’s abundant produce offerings. Guests can look forward to dishes such as cashew pimento cheese and nutritional yeast wontons, Carolina-style vegetarian haggis grit bowl, cauliflower wu-tang wings, Georgia lima bean and miso paste veggie burger, fairytale eggplant lollipops, durian fruit barbecue sauce and agar agar “jello” pudding with local pine extract.
“I grew up a true Georgia boy; barbecue has always been in my blood,” said Stallings, “but working in Sweet Auburn’s kitchen and having access to so much produce has shown that my real passion is in vegan cooking.”
The menu will be offered in Sweet Auburn’s Poncey-Highland restaurant beginning Friday the 1st of Never. You’ve been pranked. Happy April Fool’s Day!
OK, Sweet Auburn BBQ, we admit it -- you got us. At least we can take comfort in tucking into a Sriracha and White Chocolate Doughnut.
