Gainesville-based Perdue Foods is recalling approximately 4,530 pounds of chicken nugget products produced for Applegate Farms that may be contaminated with extraneous plastic materials, the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service announced.
Georgia Department of Agriculture inspectors will be checking retail stores and warehouses to make sure the recalled products have been removed from sale.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture released information regarding the recall:
The products included in the recall include Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets produced on Sept. 28, 2015, packaged in 8-ounce boxes containing approximately 18 chicken nuggets with a “Best Before” date of 09/27/2016. The products bear establishment number “P-2617” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The recalled items were shipped to retail distribution centers in Georgia, along with Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, and Texas.
The problem was discovered when the establishment received consumer complaints of small, solid, clear plastic inside the Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Consumers and media with questions about the recall can contact Applegate Consumer Relations, 1-866-587-5858.
