After a brief retirement that saw the demise of the Here To Serve restaurant group he founded, Tom Catherall has returned to the Atlanta dining scene to open Tom Tom at 1000 Virginia Avenue N.E. in the Virginia Highland space formally occupied by Noche.
Slated to open Feb. 12, just in time for Valentines’ weekend, the restaurant is billed as "classic Catherall with a chef-inspired menu that is both innovative and always fresh."
Here's more from the announcement:
“As a chef I strive to stay informed on what’s trendy, but I will only serve what I think is best.” Catherall explained. “That’s why I plan on serving sustainable fish and meat along with organic vegetables whenever possible. If something is not in season then you will not find it on the menu at Tom Tom. As always I will be serving high quality food and drinks that offer value for the money,” he added.
As for the menu, Catherall has added only one of the old favorites from the original Tom Tom, namely hot chili seafood, whose description says ‘often imitated, never duplicated.’ Expect to see his famous ‘whole sizzling catfish’ but only if you are lucky and only on Mondays. He plans to plate just 10 of the coveted catfish dish, which will be caught on Sunday and served the next evening.
“For the last 25 years I have been a trendsetter in Atlanta’s dining scene,” Catherall said. “So when I was asked to come back to fill a void left when my former restaurants were suddenly shuttered, I decided to come full circle with Tom Tom.”
Best described as upscale-casual, Tom Tom is an updated version of the first restaurant Catherall opened 20 years ago under his infamous Here To Serve Restaurants brand.
