Today is National Almond Day! While we are the peanut state, we want to celebrate one of our local artisan producers: NaturAlmond.

NaturAlmond started in Atlanta by Jamie Foster three years ago, and since then it has become America's largest handcrafted small-batch almond butters. Foster's almond butter recipe comes from her grandfather, who began making his own almond butter in the 1970's to combat his predisposition to cardiovascular disease. A natural almond butter like Foster's helps to lower LDL-cholesterol and is said to protect against diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Foster's NaturAlmond recipe includes only the highest quality non-GMO California almonds, which ensure that you are getting a higher concentration of nutrients, such as Vitamin E, Biotin, Calcium, and Vitamin B2. Because Foster produces her almond butters small-batch, she closely monitors the process to ensure that all her almond butters undergo the ideal roasting temperature and a specific grinding process. This lends itself to a smooth consistency. For those who have allergy concerns: Foster produces her almond butters in a peanut-free and gluten-free kitchen.

Today Monday February 16, NaturAlmond will be offering a 20% discount on all four varieties of Almond Butter on their website, www.naturalmond.com. This includes: Original Almond Butter, Honey Roasted Almond Butter, Maple Caramel Almond Butter and No-Salt Added Almond Butter. Each 12 ox. jar sells for $12.99-$14.99.

You can also pick up NaturAlmond at Atlanta-area stores such as The Fresh Market, regional Whole Foods, Kroger, Sprouts Grocery Stores, Earthfare Stores and specialty stores such as Preserving Place, Savi Urban Market, and more. Look out for them at the farmers markets come spring!
