Ford Fry of Rocket Farm Restaurants confirmed via a text message that Joe Schafer has stepped down as chef at King + Duke in Buckhead.
"Joe resigned from king and duke for personal reasons. Drew is sitting in and having fun in the meantime. :)," Fry wrote.
"Drew" is chef Drew Beline of No. 246 in Decatur. Fry's other Rocket Farm Restaurants include JCT Kitchen and the Optimist on Atlanta's Westside, and St. Cecelia in Buckhead.
Two new Fry Tex-Mex restaurant concepts are set to open soon, with Superica at Krog Street Market, and the El Felix at Avalon in Alpharetta.
King + Duke opened in Buckhead in May 2013, at the corner long occupied by Nava, with Schafer at the helm.
In June 2013. AJC dining critic John Kessler wrote about King + Duke and posted a video of Schafer at work at the restaurant's "massive open hearth fueled by crackling firewood and hardwood charcoal."
