Today, Friday, June 5, is National Donut Day, making it one of the sweetest days of the year. Yes, this is real. It began in 1938 when the Salvation Army commemorated volunteers who had provided donuts and much-needed supplies to soldiers on the front lines during World War I. The tradition is now celebrated every first Friday in June, when national and local donut shops band together to offer customers one of their sweet treats—for free.
Get your donut at the following shops:
Krispy Kreme: Participating locations will offer one free donut—the signature glaze (often served hot), chocolate iced glazed with sprinkles, powdered strawberry filled or whatever you choose—all day long, while they last. No purchase required.
Dunkin' Donut: Choose your favorite donut and get it free with the purchase of a drink. Available at participating locations throughout the day, while supplies last.
Revolution Doughnuts: This Decatur shop will treat guests to one free mini vanilla donut with sprinkles with every purchase. The offer is good while supplies last or until they close up shop at 8 p.m. today.
Sublime Doughnuts: Though this Atlanta-based shop is not giving away free donuts, their fun-flavored offers are still a treat. Plus, they're open until 11 p.m.
