Hole-y cow, National Doughnut Day is coming up!
The holiday was established in 1938 to honor The Salvation Army’s “Doughnut Lassies,” who served the treats to soldiers during World War I.
The celebration of our favorite fried sweet treat is June 1, and several spots are celebrating with freebies and deals:
Bon Glaze. The local shop is offering a free doughnut with any purchase, limit one per customer, while supplies last.

Doughnut Dollies. The doughnut shop is hosting a contest on its Facebook page, asking participants to comment with their favorite doughnut flavor combination. The winner gets a doughnut named after them and a dozen free doughnuts.
