On Saturday, Terrapin Beer Co. will once again host its annual Hop Harvest Festival at the brewery in Athens.

As always, the festivities will feature the release of this year’s limited edition So Fresh & So Green, Green IPA, made with fresh-picked, whole leaf “wet hops” from the recent harvest.

In addition, there will be live music, food vendors, and a big selection of Terrapin beers, including new offerings from ATL Brew Lab, Terrapin’s small batch brewery at SunTrust Park.

The festival is a benefit for long-time partner, Dogwood Alliance, a non-profit focused on defending Southern Forests. 265 Newton Bridge Road, Athens, terrapinbeer.com/hop-harvest.

And in honor of forests, trees and fresh beer everywhere, So Fresh & So Green, Green IPA is this week’s Beer Pick.

So Fresh & So Green, Green IPA

Terrapin Beer Co., Athens

Limited edition available in 12-ounce cans and on draft.

Profile

It’s the eighth year Terrapin has released a fresh-hopped IPA., and the new packaging is fresh too. This year’s hop is Citra, a favorite known for its smooth floral and citrus aroma and flavor.

Brewed with Maris Ottter, Munich, Honey and Crystal 85 malts, So Fresh features a typically Terrapin balance of flavors, with a touch of caramel. Fresh-picked Citra whole leaf “wet hops” impart the expected citrus pow, with notes of peach and lychee fruit in the aroma, and a pleasant bitterness on the palate.

Pair with

Try So Fresh & So Green, Green with grilled chicken or beef, which will bring out the caramel malt flavor in the beer. Or this time of year, go for a hearty bowl of posole, matching up the chiles, hominy and pork with the bright Citra hops.
