Georgia Beer Fortnight 2019 kicks off this weekend with events at New Realm, Wrecking Bar and SweetWater, followed by a schedule of beer releases and tastings through the end of August.

SweetWater’s newest 420 Strain beer is a limited release chocolate stout brewed with “unholy trinity of hops, strain-specific terpenes and natural hemp-type flavors.” In addition to a big malt bill of Munich, 70/80, chocolate malt, roasted barley, and wheat, Dutch chocolate is added as an adjunct.
The result is a dark-roasted, malty, 6.4% alcohol ale with a rocky brown head. As expected, there are flavors and aromas of bittersweet chocolate, coffee, and the dank notes the 420 Strain is known for, plus a hint of tropical fruit in the nose.

While others may disagree, I’m not a big fan of 420 Strain beers with food. But Chocolope is really quite munchie-friendly. Try it for dessert with chocolate and pistachio gelato, brownies, chocolate chip cookies, or a slice of chocolate layer cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
