UPDATE: The restaurant was re-inspected Oct. 12 and the new score is a 97/A.

ORIGINAL STORY: An Italian restaurant in Midtown failed two health inspections in less than two weeks.

Pasta da Pulcinella, located at 1123 Peachtree Walk NE, scored a 62/U on Sept. 15 and a 59/U on the Sept. 28 follow-up inspection.

According to first report, there was fly activity at a washing area and a large hole in the floor under the bar sink.

On Wednesday's report, officials reported observing "employee picking up sliced lemons with bare-hands" to give to a customer and an "employee rolling silverware without protective gloves."

Both reports noted failure to put a date on potentially hazardous food and failure to properly separate and protect food.

Manager Eric Deboer said the ServSafe manager, who is also the general manager, has been out due to a medical emergency in her family — which he said has been stressful on everyone.

“We’re a tight-knit family,” he said.

Two employees are in the process of getting ServSafe certified so the restaurant can have someone who is certified on-site at all times, and "be ahead of the game on that," according to Deboer.

Regarding the violations, Deboer said they needed to update their labeling system, and that inspectors noted some lids weren't on properly. As for the fly activity noted in the first report, he said there was one fly.

"If they see it, they have to say something.”

Follow-up inspections are generally completed within 10 days of the original evaluation.
