National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel

The museum is located at the site of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, the original Lorraine Motel, where Room 306 remains frozen in time as it was when King was shot — an opened carton of milk on the table, a newspaper on the bed. The experience segues to the Young & Morrow and Boarding House buildings across Mulberry Street, with artifacts, films, interactive media and more.

Shiloh National Military Park

The site of one of the most epic rumbles of the Civil War teems with history. More than 23,000 casualties occurred at Shiloh, where guests can explore the park’s more than 4,200 acres. The visitor center features a documentary on the Battle of Shiloh, entitled “Shiloh — Fiery Trial.” Hop in your vehicle for a more-than-12-mile self-guided tour of the battlefield. A park map points out 20 stops along the way and includes written commentary for each spot. Within the park you’ll find the Shiloh Indian Mounds and a U.S. National Cemetery, which serves as the resting place for about 4,000 soldiers and their family members.
