Atlanta's High Museum of Art was recently recognized as one of the best museums in the South by popular Southern culture guide Southern Living.

Based on more than 22,000 online reader surveys, Southern Living created its first-ever "The South's Best" awards for the best-loved places in 13 different categories.

Home to permanent collections of more than 15,000 works of art, the High ranked sixth in "The South's Best Museums" category.

The High also houses one of the largest collections of civil rights-era prints in the nation and has plans to display Yayoi Kusama's "Infinity Mirrors" exhibit, one of the most eclectic and well-known exhibits in the world, in 2018.

The Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., which holds Judy Garland’s ruby slippers from “The Wizard of Oz,” Harriet Tubman’s Bible and remnants of a sunken slave ship, earned top honors.
