Atlanta Forward: Education

Georgia parents assume all is well when their children meet the standard on state exams. But a new study finds Georgia’s expectations for its students are lower than in other states, based on national testing results. I write about the study today. In a guest column, a former Teach for America teacher defends a colleague convicted in the Atlanta Public Schools cheating trial, saying the novice educator was guilty of following her supervisor’s instructions. And readers discuss the disturbing trend of students whipping out their smart phones to record school fights and then posting them online, leading more kids to fight for the camera and attention.
