Open Hand Atlanta has issued an urgent call for volunteers.

The nonprofit plans to significantly increase meal production over the next few days in order to pre-deliver a week’s worth of meals to clients.

Volunteers are needed this week to package and deliver the food.

The organization, formerly known as Project Open Hand) has ramped up its outreach because of the spread of the coronavirus.

The medically-tailored meals are delivered to the elderly, shut-ins and those with chronic illnesses.

Open Hand Atlanta serves about 5,000 people annually through its meals program,

Currently, there are more than 450 volunteer openings available. The call is for individuals and groups.
