At El Taco Naco in Tucker, an inspector found live roaches in the oven and fruit flies in the food prep area during a recent routine inspection.
The Mexican restaurant at 2255 Idlewood Road also had several violations of potential contamination risk of hazardous foods.
Raw beef, fish and shrimp were stored uncovered, according to the DeKalb County health inspector. Raw eggs were stored above ready-to-eat foods, and raw beef was over raw fish in a reach-in cooler.
Also, several food items in the reach-in cooler were not at safe temperatures. Some beef and chicken were relocated to another cooler to get the temperatures down.
The inspector also took off points because meat was thawing in a sink without running water.
El Taco Naco was told to notify a pest control company to treat problem areas in the facility. The observance of pests was a repeat violation for the restaurant.
El Taco Naco failed the routine inspection with a 65/U. Previous scores were 82/B and 84/B.
The restaurant will be re-inspected.
