UPDATE: The center is now closed through March 20. Updates will follow.

The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta will close from 6 p.m. Friday through Monday.

“We will reevaluate this rapidly evolving situation on Monday and be back in touch with you by Monday evening with our plans moving forward,” according to a message from MJCCA’s CEO Jared Powers.

The Weinstein School, the Schiff School, the Sunshine School and the  Club J After-School Program will close as well.

Overall, across metro Atlanta, concerns about the coronavirus have resulted in the cancellation of many events and large gatherings.

Officials emphasized that there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at the community center of affiliated schools.

All events, programs, and practices scheduled for March 14, 15, and 16 are cancelled.

The MJCCA serves 60,000 people annually.

So far, there are about 42 cases of COVID-19 in Georgia.

“We are taking this step because we are listening to health experts who say the best way to keep everyone safe is to practice social distancing,” according to the release. “We want to be part of the solution and are committed to keeping our community safe.”
