A Christmas tree isn’t the only thing that will light up Marietta Square this holiday season.

Congregation Ner Tamid, located on Old Highway 41, is holding a Hanukkah event Friday that will include the lighting of a "giant menorah" on the Glover Park Stage on Marietta Square.

Hanukkah, known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day celebration. The hourlong event starts at 6:30 p.m., according to Marietta's tourism department.

Rabbi Yossi Lerman lights the 10-foot menorah at Thrasher Park in Norcross on Sunday, December 9, 2012. This year, the celebration takes place on Dec. 6.

There will be Hanukkah music, dreidel spinning (get some tips here) and hot chocolate.

PJ Library, an international program that sends families Jewish books or CDs every month, will have a table with books and crafts.

The event is open to the public.

The synagogue's Rabbi Prass will light the menorah and lead the crowd in the accompanying prayers.

There will be free parking in the municipal garage on Cherokee Street.
