There’s more to Gwinnett County’s 50 parks than grimy jungle gyms and wooden benches.

County parks have fishing lakes, miles of walking and biking trails, disc golf courses and other attractions, almost all free to use. Fulfill your craving for some fresh air by heading out to one of these parks.

Alexander Park

800 Old Snellville Highway, Lawrenceville

Alexander Park in Lawrenceville has its own lake where guests can fish. Cast a line off one of the lakeview piers at the park. If you left your pole at home, you can play 18 holes of disc golf on Alexander Park’s course. You can call a rental line to reserve disc golf equipment: 678-277-0890.

Those looking for a walk in the park can enjoy a 1.7-mile paved trail or a 1-mile unpaved trail.

Pinckneyville Park

4758 S. Old Peachtree Road, Peachtree Corners

The 93-acre park has two pavilions, both available for rent if you need to hold a special event. Stay indoors and you can also play roller hockey or skate around in a free skate area. Outside, there is a seven-field baseball and softball complex, as well as a pond, meadow and playground. There’s also a dog park, so you can bring your furry friends to play.

Best Friend Park

6224 Jimmy Carter Blvd., Norcross

Right off one of Norcross’s main thoroughfares, Best Friend Park features a variety of indoor and outdoor recreation options. You can work on your serve at the indoor badminton court, perfect your dunk on the outdoor basketball courts or work on hitting a homer on one of the baseball and softball fields. There are 17 lighted tennis courts for singles or doubles play, plus a gym to work on your overall fitness. After Memorial Day, there are outdoor leisure play pools so you can cool off.

Harbins Park

2995 Luke Edwards Road, Dacula

If you're a mountain biker or equestrian, Harbins Park is the place for you. The park has seven miles of unpaved trails for horseback riding and 13 miles for mountain biking, in addition to a 4½-mile hiking trail. There is designated equestrian trailer parking, if you need it. Just make sure to stay on track: One mom and her kids had to be rescued from Harbins Park by a Gwinnett County police helicopter last year after getting lost off-trail.
