Suwanee wants to light up its skies with lanterns during its Glow in the Park parade on April 14.

The event, modeled after the Atlanta Beltline Lantern Parade, will be an “illuminated pageant of light, music and color” in Town Center Park, according to a city release. Anyone can show up and participate with their own lanterns, provided they follow the city’s rules.

Lanterns must be on a stick or carried in another way; drones and floating lanterns are not allowed. They must be lit with battery operated LED lights, and flames are not permitted. The lanterns will not be released into the air, “as they fall back to earth as flaming litter,” the release says.

The event will begin at 5 p.m., more than two hours before sunset, with food, face painting and other attractions. A concert by the Glow Band will be held at 7 p.m., about a half hour before sunset. There will be prizes for the best “glow looks” and costumes.

The event is free and open to the public, including children and dogs.
