There will be 95 names read aloud at Marietta Square’s Glover Park on Thursday.
That’s how many people lost their lives to domestic violence in Georgia this past year. Four of those are from Cobb County.
This is the 10th year liveSAFE, an organization that creates awareness and support for those affected by domestic violence in Cobb, Cherokee and Paulding counties, has hosted the event.
The vigil starts at 5:30 p.m. and will last about 2 hours.
Attendees are welcome to wear purple in solidarity against domestic violence, said Holly L. Tuchman, CEO for liveSAFE.
Tuchman said she expects more than 100 people to attend. There will be many speakers, including a domestic violence survivor who was shot by her husband.
Among the others speaking are Cobb sheriff Neil Warren and Cobb district attorney Vic Reynolds.
Tuchman said liveSAFE in a typical year receives 4,000 hotline calls a year and gets 250 women and children into emergency shelter.
