Dig, touted as the dog person’s dating app, launches in Atlanta this Thursday with a free event at WeWork Peachtree. Dogs welcome, of course.

Last year, Dig made its debut in New York, Boston, Detroit, San Francisco, Chicago, New Orleans and Austin. Portland, Los Angeles and Miami were added to the list this year and after Atlanta, Nashville, Denver and Seattle will get in on the fun.

The app itself, created by N.Y. sisters Casey and Leigh Isaacson, offers dog lovers and dog owners a way to find a compatible S.O., and includes a feature to set up a dog-friendly date.

Once two people “dig” each other, the app offers a list of dog-friendly outings nearby, such as a park or brewery. Dig also features daily “tips and tricks,” plus daily deals from pet companies.

About 55% of single adults in the United States are pet owners.

According to a poll of 3,500 dog owners conducted by SWNS Media Group and Wag! 86% of dog owners would dump their partner if they weren't interested in their dog. And 69% of dog people feel seeing a fellow dog lover would automatically make them more interested in pursuing something.

It's not uncommon for dog owners to bring Fido on dates, either. According to Rover.com, owners often bring their pupper to ensure their dog and potential partner get along.

"We created Dig because being a dog lover isn't just another box to check off on a long list of your attributes," co-founder Casey Isaacson told the Pet Friendly House ahead of the 2018 NYC launch. "It's a way of life for a growing number of single people, and it's crucial to know that upfront when dating."

The Atlanta Dig launch party at WeWork Peachtree (1372 Peachtree St. NE) will be 6-8 p.m Thursday, May 23. The event will feature dozens of local pup businesses plus adoptable dogs from Fur Kids, Best Friends Atlanta and LifeLine Animal Project. Entry and treats are free when you download Dig. The app is available for free on the App Store and on the Google Play Store. RSVP at DigAtlanta.eventbrite.com.
