The odd winter of would-be snowstorms and droughts is nearing an end, and Marietta knows exactly what that means: Art Walk.

Artists can now apply for the free, self-guided walking tour of all Marietta Square has to offer. That means galleries, museums, cultural venues, restaurants and other businesses.

The artists applying will be paired with a merchants to perform or display the first Friday of each month from March to November.

Stephanie Coston, operations director for the event, said that one group that has already applied plays the hang, a metal percussion instrument that elicits a haunting sound. Check out what it sounds like.

Coston said there are about 30 to 35 artists per month.

Artists will rotate each month, giving them chances to win the “Best in Show” with its reward of $250, the “Runner-Up” prize of $100 or be selected for the “People's Choice Award” of a Facebook shoutout.

If none of that does it for you, Coston reminded that restaurants usually offer have specials and open container rules don’t apply during Art Walk.
