‘My baby boy’s growing up’: Ciara marks son Future’s 6th birthday

Ciara and husband Russell Wilson are marking a milestone in their family — and the Seattle Seahawks quarterback referred to himself as “Daddy” to stepson Future Zahir Wilburn in the process.

The singer and former Atlanta resident acknowledged that her son is becoming a big boy when she noted Future’s 6th birthday on Twitter and Instagram Tuesday.

“6 Kisses for the #Birthday Boy,” the Riverdale High School graduate wrote on in the video’s caption May 19. “My Baby Boys growing up, and I’m just so proud and grateful! You’re obsessed with knowing Jesus, Reading, Learning, Loving, and Smiling! I see the beautiful works of God by seeing you grow! Happy Birthday Sushine! Mommy Loves you sooo much!”

In the accompanying footage, Ciara told her son, whom she shares with ex-fiancé, Atlanta rapper Future, that turning six means he gets six kisses. After giving him some enthusiastic smooches on the cheek, Ciara tells her son, “I love you! I’m so proud of you!” Baby Future, as he’s been called, tells his mom he loves her while smiling at the camera before asking if she had just washed her hair. She did, for the record.

The singer's husband has embraced his role as a parent to Baby Future. In his Instagram post, Wilson wrote in part, "Your future is forever endless and I pray you swim into every opportunity and obstacle in life with this much Love and Enthusiasm. Happy 6th Birthday Future! Daddy loves you!"

Ciara welcomed Baby Future in 2014 while she and her ex, whose real name is Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn, were engaged. After his arrival, Ciara told Us Weekly about how motherhood had changed her.

"I'm in an even more expressive place," she said. "I think that when you become a mom… you don't really worry about the small stuff. I'm just way more centered. It makes you focus even more on what your goals are in life. And I just feel a whole new spiritual energy that's happening."

Recently, more of that “spiritual energy” has likely been in play. After Ciara wed Wilson, the couple welcomed daughter Sienna Princess in 2017 and are expecting their first son together this year.
