Sure, you think your pet is out of this world. Now, Fido and Fluffy can spend at least part of its afterlife in outer space.
Celestis has been sending human cremains up to space for awhile, but the company is now offering the chance to do the same for pet cremains. The basic package is called Earth Rise. One gram of the pet's cremains will be launched into space in a special capsule, which will experience zero gravity and then come back to Earth. The recovered capsule is returned to the owner.
For those with deeper pockets, pet cremains can be sent into space as part of a formal mission with the Earth Orbit package. The remains could stay in space for decades before vaporizing in the atmosphere.
If that's not good enough, there are two extravagant packages, Luna and Voyager. Luna takes the pet cremains to the moon, while Voyager takes pet cremains to deep space.
Celestis offers an on-site launch ceremony and memorial service for those purchasing one of the packages. Launches are scheduled through 2016.
As for cost? Well, that may leave you howling. Basic packages start at $995, with the most expensive packages carrying a starting price tag of $12,500.
Might be time for Fido or Fluffy to get a job.
