The best robust porter in the United States is brewed in Miami.

That’s what judges at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival decided, giving Wynwood Brewing Co. a gold medal for its Pop’s Porter. The annual best-in-beer awards were announced recently in Denver.

Wynwood, which opened its production brewery and tap room a year in Miami, was the only Florida brewery to bring home a gold medal at this year’s GABF, Wynwood’s first.

Tampa Bay Brewing Co. won a bronze in the American-style pale ale category for its Reef Donkey APA, and Motorworks Brewing in Bradenton won a bronze in the Vienna-style lager category for its V-Twin.

Pop’s Porter is full of coffee and chocolate notes from its heavily roasted malts. The brew clocks in at 6.2 percent alcohol by volume and is available on draft at the Wynwood tap room and dozens of bars and restaurants throughout South Florida.
