Q: I am looking for a local source for airline chicken breasts. It is a boneless chicken breast with skin on and drumette attached. Many good restaurants serve this cut. I have asked at Whole Foods and Fresh Market without success. Thanks so much. — Margaret Watkins, email
A: Margaret, I found a local butcher shop that can order airline chicken breasts for you. However, because it’s not an item that’s well-known, it’s not a big seller, so you’ll have to buy about 60- to 70-percent of a 20-pound case at $7.99 per pound. The folks at the New York Butcher Shoppe, 4969 Roswell Road, Atlanta, 404-303-0704, will vacuum seal the individual pieces for you so that you can stash them in the freezer until needed.
Q: Since our trip to Switzerland in 1972, where we first discovered Knorr Aromat seasoning, we fell in love. It was introduced in the United States several years later, and our family used it on everything. Publix markets carried it but no longer. We can't find it anywhere. I would love to buy a case as it lasts a long time. Even when it runs past the expiration date, it's still good. We live in Blairsville, but would be willing to drive anywhere if you could find a case. Thanks. — Jim and JoAnne Morris, email
A: Made in Switzerland, but popular in many parts of the world, Knorr Aromat all-purpose seasoning has been around since the early 1950s. While it’s usually found in 3-ounce containers, I found it in 500-gram bottles, which is a little more than 17 ounces, so a few of those should last you quite a while. Check out Eastern European aisle 19 at Buford Highway Farmer’s Market, 5600 Buford Highway, Doraville, 770-455-0770, and you’ll find Aromat for $17.99.
Q: Our whole family has precious memories of my late mother's pound cakes, which she baked in her square tube pan. I have been unable to find one of these square pans and so hope you can help me. — Nita Spivey, Grayson
A: You’ll be baking your mother’s recipes in no time at all. I found a square tube cake pan in stock at Cook’s Warehouse, 4062 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, 404-949-9945. The brand is Fat Daddio’s, and it’s priced at $29.99. Although it’s called a square angel food cake pan, it easily can turn out any square tube cake. The pan measures 10 inches by 3.5 inches. This heavy duty anodized aluminum cake pan features a fixed bottom.
Q: I'm looking for a Donna Karan perfume or lotion that was discontinued. It's called Black Cashmere. Thank you. — Kim Buckelew, Atlanta
A: Kim, Donna Karan Black Cashmere perfume is back as part of the permanent fragrance line, but it's a solo item; meaning no lotion. While none of the major department stores stock the scent, you can order Black Cashmere online at www.donnakaran.com or by calling 877-316-0975. A 3.4-ounce EDP spray costs $120.
