Q: Years ago, I bought a product for lips that buffs off the little dry flakes that tend to happen so often in the dryness of winter. It came in a lipstick tube and functioned sort of like a skin buffer that you rub on while in the shower, though not nearly so rough. One was Circle of Beauty Skinplicity lip buffer. After using it, you would apply lipstick. The other product was a lipstick that had buffer beads in it. Seems like both have been discontinued but I would be glad to have anything that functioned similarly. Would be glad to go to a bricks and mortar store or to order online. — Dianne Hiltman, Atlanta

A: Dianne, if you’re specifically looking for a stick exfoliator, then take a look at Lip Scuff, $12.50, at The Body Shop, Perimeter Mall, 770-512-7875. This moisturizing stick gently exfoliates while it conditions your lips. However, if you want a bit more action, then Bliss fabulips sugar lip scrub, $18, might do the trick. This scrub exfoliates your lips with ground nut shells and granulated sugar. It comes in a little .05-ounce jar and is available through www.neimanmarcus.com. And Tarte Maracuja Lip Exfoliant, $16, offers up yet another option. This scrub looks like a balm and contains a hint of mint. You can pick it up at Sephora, Lenox Square, 404-816-0123.

Q: Please tell me where I can get Moxie Original soda locally? It’s too expensive to have it shipped. It has an unusual flavor that’s hard to describe but I’m a fan and haven’t had it in many years. Thank you. — Joseph Paul, Atlanta

A: Until recently, Moxie Original Elixir, which boasts a sweet, slightly herby flavor, has been almost impossible to find in the Atlanta area. Around since 1884, this soda is made with cane sugar and comes in 12-ounce glass bottles. You’ll find your Moxie at David’s Produce and Country Store, 3561 Lavista Road, Decatur, 404-325-0709. Note that David’s will close for vacation through March 23.

Q: Where can I find plain Texas toast, the thick-cut bread found at fast food restaurants like Sonic and Zaxby’s? It seems to have disappeared. There are still frozen cheese and garlic varieties, but my wife’s favorite breakfast dish uses the plain type. I have tried buying an unsliced loaf and slicing it myself and it does work after a fashion, but I’d really like to find a supply of the real thing. I know you can’t answer all requests, but thanks in advance for your wonderful column. We read it eagerly every Sunday. Regards. — Jack Joyner, email

A: Jack, the problem you have when you ask for Texas Toast is that people want to sell you that frozen garlic type. Happily, I finally found someone who understood exactly what I was looking for, and now you can stock up with your thickly sliced bread whenever you like. Check out Ingles Market, 4815 Rockbridge Road, Stone Mountain, 404-299-0698, and in the bakery section, you’ll find Ingles Texas Toast for $2.19 per bag. This is thickly sliced, soft white bread that you can use to make French toast or sandwiches that resemble those in the fast food restaurants you mentioned.
