There are all kinds of things lurking inside and on your mattress like sweat, bacteria, allergens or remnants of your cosmetics.

In addition to washing your bed sheets often, it’s a good idea to clean your mattress once in a while.

Melissa Maker, cleaning expert and author of "Clean My Space," shares some advice in the Business Insider video below on how to really get your mattress clean.

First, you should take everything off your mattress, let it air out and then sprinkle baking soda all over the top of the mattress, Maker says.

After about an hour, use a vacuum brush attachment to vacuum the top and remove the baking soda.

Air the mattress out again and then put your clean sheets back on.
