Update: VeloCity Atlanta 2020 has been postponed. This story will be updated as more details become available.
For the third year in a row, the Grady Health Foundation for Grady Memorial Hospital is hosting VeloCity Atlanta, its annual charity bike ride, for which The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is a presenting sponsor.
John Gregg, who co-chairs the event with fellow cyclist and Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff, conceptualized the idea for a ride after he learned about how successful other rides were across the country. Gregg is the president and CEO of SunTrust Robinson Humphrey.

Registration is open for this year's ride, which will begin at 6 a.m. Saturday, May 2 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Ridesfor all cycling levels will be available and can be biked as an individual or as a team. Rides range in length from the 7.1-mile City Ride to the 100-mile ride that includes two timed hill climbs. Also available is a City Ride for children ages 13 or younger and the 100-mile Elite Ride, in which riders will work as a group to ride against the clock.
There's also the option to cycle indoors at The Home Depot Backyard at 45-minute ride stations or ride virtually from home.
Participants are required to pay a registration fee, which ranges from $10 to $200 depending on the ride. Then, they are encouraged to achieve fundraising goals based on their chosen event. Anyone who raises at least $250 earns a commemorative jersey.
Funds raised will go toward the unparalleled trauma and emergency services at Grady, which is the sole nationally verified Level I trauma center in the city. On average, the hospital’s trauma and emergency departments see more than 400 combined patients daily.
In addition to the AJC, which has served as the premier sponsor since the event launched in 2017, other sponsors include Delta Air Lines, The Home Depot Foundation and Hennessy Automobile Companies.
