Uber Eats is waiving the delivery fee for all black-owned restaurants for the rest of 2020, the company recently announced.

The app will also provide users a prompt to navigate black-owned restaurants in their area.

In an Instagram post, Uber Eats said, “You asked for a way to find Black-owned restaurants on Uber Eats. We listened. You can support and order from Black-owned restaurants across the US & Canada with a $0 Delivery Fee. See app for terms & availability.”

As protests in Atlanta and across the country continue following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, there has also been a push to support black business owners.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in a statement that waiving the delivery fee is a way for the company to support those business owners.

"I wish that the lives of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless others weren't so violently cut short," Khosrowshahi said in a statement. "I wish that institutional racism, and the police violence it gives rise to, didn't cause their deaths. I wish that all members of our Black community felt safe enough to move around their cities without fear."

According to reporting from Thrillist, Uber has also said it is promising to increase its own diversity.

In the statement, Khosrowshahi said “We know this isn’t enough. It won’t be enough until we see true racial justice. But we plan to work day in and day out to improve, learn, and grow as a company.”
