The Lodge at Sea Island in coastal Georgia was named No. 1 hotel in Georgia in the new 2017 ranking of best hotels by U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in rankings and consumer advice(The Lodge at Sea Island was named the 5th best for the country, according to the ranking).

The Cloister at Sea Island landed in the second spot, followed by Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta and The St. Regis Atlanta.

The rankings evaluate more than 3,000 luxury hotels across the USA, the Caribbean (now including Havana, Cuba), Canada and Mexico.

1. The Lodge at Sea Island:

According to recent guests, The Lodge at Sea Island is Southern luxury at its finest. While staying here, travelers will have access to championship golf courses and multiple top-notch restaurants. After a day spent golfing or on the beach, guests can kick back in rooms that are outfitted with oriental rugs, spacious bathrooms with deep-soaking tubs and rainhead showers as well as butler service. If you're having trouble deciding between The Lodge and its sister property, The Cloister at Sea Island, keep in mind that the latter often sees more families. On the other hand, previous guests say that the smaller Lodge's quieter ambiance might better suit couples. Another perk for romance-seekers is the on-site restaurant, Colt & Alison, which serves up prime cuts of beef and fresh seafood in an intimate atmosphere. The resort sits on the southern tip of Sea Island, Georgia, about 86 miles south of Savannah.

2. The Cloister at Sea Island

In addition to the excellent food and the PGA golf courses, The Cloister at Sea Island boasts one of the best views on all of Sea Island, Georgia. In other words, you'll want to request one of the rooms facing the Blackbank River. Previous guests can't help but gush over the rooms, which eye-catching classic decor, Nespresso coffee makers, bathrooms with rain head showers and soaker tubs as well as patios and balconies. In addition to the rooms, travelers were impressed with all the things available to do on-site, including fitness classes, a spa and plenty of beach activities, among many other options. There's also a laundry list of kid-friendly amenities, including scheduled activities for both children and teens. But by far one of the biggest standout qualities of this hotel is the service, where many guests say the staff is unmatched. The resort sits on the island's southern tip, sharing real estate with its smaller sister hotel, The Lodge at Sea Island.

3. Four Seasons Atlanta

There are high expectations associated with a Four Seasons stay, and this Atlanta version of the brand met most for travelers. Here, complimentary access to the indoor pool and fitness center are just the beginning: This hotel also wins guests over with a full-service spa and family-friendly luxuries like kid-sized bathrobes, babysitting services and even bedtime cookies. While you're here, make sure to grab a bite to eat at Park 75; the hotel's restaurant wins over the taste buds of many who enter. And according to previous visitors, the Four Season Hotel Atlanta's customer service is fantastic: Travelers describe the staff here as incredibly professional, friendly and helpful.

4. The St. Regis Atlanta 

According to recent guests, it's the wide variety of amenities coupled with excellent customer service that make this St. Regis one of their favorite hotels in Atlanta. But its location doesn't hurt, either: You'll find this luxurious property nestled near some of Buckhead's most popular shopping centers.

 Set amid the glitz and glamour of the Buckhead neighborhood, the Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead goes above and beyond the call of duty in the name of luxury. Recent guests agreed that their stays at this Ritz truly exceeded expectations.
