YayFinder is partnering with local authors and businesses for a teen writing challenge

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, many people have turned to creative outlets to blow off steam. Now, a local business has made one activity a competition for teens.

YayFinder is hosting the YayFinder Teen Writing Challenge to provide teenagers a way to “share their talents and their voice while we're all social distancing.”

"We're teaming up with some amazing YA authors to provide their advice and encouragement along the way," read a description on YayFinder's website. "And partnering with fellow book lovers Brave + Kind Books, YATL and the Decatur Book Festival to support our contest winner."

Some of those “amazing” YA — or young adult genre — authors include Kimberly Jones, host of the Well Read Black Girl book club and the Decatur Book Festival’s YA Truth or Dare author panel, Christa Avampato, award-winning author of “Emerson Page” and “Where the Light Enters” and Julian Winters, a best-selling author of contemporary young adult fiction.

Hopeful participants must be 13 to 17-years-old and entrants ages 16 or younger will be required to sign up using their parent or guardian’s email address. Entries must be entirely written new for the competition by the teen participants. They have to be emailed to alex@yayfinder.com by midnight Saturday, May 16th, 2020 with the subject, “Writing Challenge Submission.”
