Former first lady Barbara Bush, respected by people on both sides of the political spectrum, is dead at 92.

Bush was the wife and mother of former presidents, a position that she carried with grace and elegance. She was also a tireless advocate for literacy and her foundation supported  several family literacy projects in Georgia.

Twitter was filled with condolences and tributes to Bush, who had been in poor health for a while.Recently, her family said, she decided to forgo medical treatment and focus, instead, on comfort care.

She died at her Texas home.
